An unarmed Minuteman III missile blasted out of its underground silo at Vandenberg Air Force Base yesterday. The missile was launched at 12:03 early yesterday morning. Colonel Chris Moss, commander of the 30th Space Wing, says the launch served as an “important demonstration of our nation’s nuclear deterrent capability.”
Another test launch will be conducted from Vandenberg next week.
The Minuteman system has been in service for 60 years. Through continuous upgrades, including new production versions, improved targeting systems, and enhanced accuracy, today’s Minuteman system remains state-of-the art and is capable of meeting all modern challenges.
