Atascadero city council addresses a problem many local municipalities and school districts are facing. The loss of Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant.
City manager Rochelle Rickard talked about the issue at last night’s city council meeting. Although property tax revenue will not be impacted as severely in the north county, the entire county will be impacted by the closure of the nuclear power plant in 2025.
Last week a judge recommends the rate payers should not be asked to pay a fat settlement to San Luis Obispo county. Some are asking the share holders to pay the fee, but it was not the share holders who have been demanding that the plant be closed.
The state public utilities commission may ultimately decide if there’s any settlement at all for local municipalities when the plant shuts down.
