If you see smoke today in the North County, it may be coming from a controlled burn at Camp Roberts.
The fire is scheduled today from ten this morning until five this afternoon. This controlled burn is intended to create a “fire break” in preparation for a second, larger controlled burn on May 25th.
The second burn, scheduled for next Thursday, will burn off brush in the Camp Roberts impact area where live rounds used in training can ignite brush. That second controlled burn will be a large-scale burn involving several local fire departments, a California Army National Guard aviation unit and also personnel from the California Office of Emergency Services.
