Atascadero police chief telling Atascadero city council last night. Police chiefs across the state are feeling the impact of one state law and two initiatives which change how criminals are prosecuted, the impacts are not surprising.
Property theft has increased dramatically. There are also people who were incarcerated, who now living on the streets.
District attorney Dan Dow also addressed the Atascadero city council last night. He talked about the crimes which were downgraded with the state law and two initiatives approved by voters. Chief Haley says the impacts are being felt here in San Luis Obispo county with increased property thefts. After council discussion, acting mayor Roberta Fonzi made the motion for endorsement. The council voted 4-0 to support the initiative. Mayor Tom O’malley was not present. The council also received an excellent report from fire chief Casey Bryson about the danger of wildfire in Atascadero. More on that tomorrow.
