San Luis Obispo County Supervisors approve the decision to hire a half-time doctor and a full-time nurse practitioner to work at the county jail. The decision by County Health Agency Director Jeff Hamm comes after two inmates die at the jail in recent weeks. On January 22nd, 36-year-old Andrew Chaylon Holland died after being restrained for nearly two days. His dead caused by a blood clot that was ruled natural by the county coroner. Then last Thursday, 60-year-old Kevin Lee McLaughlin died of a heart attack at the jail. The county wanted to hire a staff psychiatrist for the jail, but abandoned efforts to do so because of a nationwide shortage of psychiatrists.
