A missile launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base yesterday afternoon successfully intercepts an intercontinental ballistic missile launched from the South Pacific. A “kill vehicle” on the top of the missile steered toward the missile and slammed into it high over the Pacific Ocean. The defense system demonstrates the US ability to intercept and destroy a missile launched toward the United States.
The director of the missile agency calls it an incredible accomplishment. Vice Admiral James D. Syring says the test demonstrates that we have capable, credible deterrent. He says he’s incredibly proud of the war fighters who executed the test and who operate this system every day.
