Social security checks are going up slightly next year. The cost of living increase in 2021 is 1.3%. For the average retired worker, that will be about $20 per month. But after losses sustained by the government imposed shutdown in response to the coronavirus, it will be a small comfort for many retirees.
Water levels at local lakes have dropped substantially since January. Lake Nacimiento is currently at 26% of capacity. In January it was at 52%. Santa Margarita is at 74% of capacity. Last year this time, it was 89%. In the south county, Lopez lake has dropped to about 43% from 56%.
