PG and E is proposing building a series of battery energy storage projects around the state. The intent is to help improve energy resiliency after Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant is shut down. Diablo produces 9% of the state’s energy.
Now, PG and E wants to build nine battery storage projects. The one in Nipomo to be called the Caballero Energy Storage Project.
Supervisor Dawn Ortiz-Legg, who represents the district where Diablo is located, is against closing the PG and E plant. She spoke at a December demonstration in support of Diablo Canyon.
PG and E is now proposing nine battery storage facilities to help the state deal with energy shortages, including brown-outs and black-outs following the closure of the Diablo Canyon nuclear power plan.
