The San Luis Obispo behavioral health department has released a year 1 summary of its “Soundheal” meditation project.
Soundheal asks clients to complete meditation sessions in a sound heal meditation pod before or after group or individual therapy sessions, and then complete a brief journal entry where they indicate their feelings and emotions before and after the session.
The behavioral health department says that preliminary data analysis suggests a positive outcome of the Healpod meditation sessions, with an increase in positive feelings and typically a decrease in negative feelings.
The project acknowledges its shortcomings, in that it is difficult to quantify an independent effect on the heal pod, and from social desirability bias.
The next phase of the project will expand the number of clients and observe trends over a longer time period.
