A Cal Poly chemistry team in collaboration with an east coast company has received approval for a US government patent for an innovative, eco friendly glue.
The glue will be commercialized under the name “d-glue,” and is designed to be broken apart at lower temperatures while maintaining the integrity of the item so that it may be broken down for recyclable materials.
Glue currently in use requires extreme heat to separate recyclable materials, a costly method that discourages reclamation.
The patent received last week creates a pathway for proprietary commercial production of the glue. Currently there is talk with multiple prospective corporations and product manufacturers for use of the glue for commercial and industrial applications.
