Joy Harjo is named US Poet Laureate. She’s the first Native American to hold the position. The 68-year-old poet was appointed yesterday by librarian of congress Carla Hayden, who said that Harjo will help tell the American story. Harjo is a member of the Muscogee Creek Nation, and a native of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
