The superintendent of the Cambria and Cayucos school district is retiring. The district announcing Scott Smith’s impending departure Friday, just weeks after he received a 10% pay raise.
Smith says he plans to retire by the end of this month. He says “It’s been an honor and a privilege to serve the students of Cayucos elementary for the past five years.”
In January, the school boards voted to increase his pay 10% to $220 thousand per year.
The vote was contentious. Some parents were angry over how he handled protocol over the state mask mandate.
The masks and vaccines were a big issue at school board meetings.
