As the middle class and upper middle class move out of California, it’s changing the population and the number of congressional seats in the state. California to lose one congressional seat. Texas to gain two seats in congress.
That’s the report from the Census Bureau.
The US population increased by 7.4% last year to 331 million people. That’s the second-slowest increase ever.
California is losing a congressional seat for the first time in 170 years of statehood. That’s because the population is not keeping pace with the growth in the nation. And many Californian’s are moving to other states.
Colorado, Montana and Oregon all gained population. But the biggest winner was Texas. The Lone Star state will add two congressional seats.
Florida and North Carolina also gained one seat.
Other states losing seats include Illinois, Michigan, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
