The federal government has said that on Wednesday, October 4th, it will conduct a nationwide test of its emergency alert systems.
The EAS portion of the test will send an emergency alert to all radios and televisions, and the WEA will test direct alerts to all consumer cell phones. At about 2:20 pm eastern standard time on Wednesday, all wireless phones should receive an alert and an accompanying text message that reads “This is a test of the national wireless emergency alert system. No action is needed.”
All radios and televisions will similarly receive a broadcast for an emergency test alert. The federal emergency management agency says the test is to “Ensure that the systems continue to be an effective means of warning the public about emergencies.”
Wednesday’s test will be the seventh-ever nationwide test of the emergency alert systems, and the third test of wireless emergency alerts.
