A vegetation fire burned about 11 acres of the Salinas riverbed Saturday. The fire was reported around five Saturday afternoon in the area near North River road.
The wind-driven fire consumed dense vegetation in the riverbed. Fire fighters had difficulty accessing the fire. North River road was closed between Union road and Riveroaks drive for about five hours. 62 firefighters from Paso Robles, Cal Fire, Camp Roberts, Templeton and Atascadero responded to the fire. Sunday morning, they determined 11 and a half acres burned. The cause is under investigation.
It was the second fire in the river bed in the past month. On June 10th, a brush fire in the riverbed in the 100 block of Niblick road forced closure of the Niblick bridge.
