A former Bearcat drafted in the third round of the NFL draft. Josh Oliver played tight end at San Jose State. He was taken 69th overall in the NFL draft by the the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was recruited by the Spartans to play linebacker or defensive end, but after injuries benched several Spartan receivers, Oliver became a tight end. As a senior, he led the Spartans with 56 catches and four touchdowns. He was named the first team all-mountain conference.
One other county football player signed as a free agent with the Miami Dolphins. Cal’s Patrick Laird graduated from Mission Prep in San Luis. Laird walked on at Cal, but led the Golden Bears in rushing the past two seasons. He rushed for over 2,000 yards and caught 96 passes in his junior and senior years.
