Despite warnings from Amazon, the Seattle city council yesterday approves a tax on large business to fight homelessness.
The council unanimously backs a tax plan that will charge large businesses $275 per full time worker. Initially, they looked at a $500-per-worker tax.
The tax will being in 2019 and will raise about $48 million dollars a year to pay for affordable housing and homeless services. Amazon has warned it may pull it’s corporate headquarters out of Seattle.
