Sebastian’s General Store is back on the footprint where its been since 1878.
Hearst Corporation moved the store Monday, back on to that footprint after constructing a new concrete foundation for it to stand on. Next, they’ll renovate the interior.
The store is expected to reopen sometime this summer, if all goes as planned.
The building was originally built in the 1860’s at Whaling Point out on the end of the peninsula at San Simeon. Portuguese whalers had a small village out on Whaling Point. The building moved to its current site in 1878 using Egyptian technology. They put the building on logs and then towed it from the point into San Simeon road.
Now that it’s back on the original footprint, crews will start renovating the interior.
