Late last week, Cal Poly opened a new center for Latin and Hispanic students. The new cultural center is called La Casa. Cal Poly’s student diversity and belonging department has seven other cultural centers. Three are gender and sexuality related. The other four are related to race and ethnicity.
Homeless people living at the safe parking site near the sheriff’s department have joined the California Homeless Union. The new chapter is called SLO County Local. It represents about 50 homeless people who live at the Oklahoma avenue parking site off highway 1, just outside San Luis Obispo. The SLO county local chapter president says by unionizing, the homeless people may improve relationships between administrators and the homeless.
