The county DA’s office announced three co-defendants will be held on trial for assault charges.
The DA’s office says that the three defendants were allegedly involved in a group assault in downtown San Luis Obispo near hotel Cerro, on October 6th. The group allegedly stomped, kicked, and punched the victim in the middle of the road; the victim was transported to a local hospital for severe injuries. The three defendants, Alex Lopez-Ramirez, Miguel Mendez, and Brian Ramirez-Lopez are all suspected to be members of a criminal street gang in Santa Maria. The victim was identified as a member of a rival street gang.
District attorney Dan Dow said “Gang violence has no place in San Luis Obispo county… this was a brutal attack that continued even after the victim was unconscious and defenseless in the middle of a public street.”
The three defendants are currently out of custody, and scheduled to be arranged on September 17th.
