The US 101 south in the Paso Robles area was closed for about six hours yesterday, from 9 in the morning until just after 3 pm. The freeway was closed from a deputy-involved shooting after a high speed chase. The sheriff’s office released a full statement of the incident:
A male suspect was wanted in connection with a felony stalking case. Sheriff deputies attempted to make contact with him while he was inside his vehicle in a parking lot in Paso Robles. The suspect accelerated back, striking a sheriff’s patrol unit, and a pursuit began. He fled northbound on the 101 before turning around in San Miguel. Spike strips were deployed several times, and as he approached Paso Robles, the sheriff’s office terminated the pursuit.
The vehicle later crashed on the 101 near the Niblick road overpass. The suspect remained inside his vehicle as deputies attempted to make contact. He then exited his vehicle, pointing a handgun at officers. Shots were fired, and the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. No deputies were injured.
There is no threat to the public at this time, and they are continuing to investigate this incident.
