The district attorney’s office announced that former mayoral candidate for Arroyo Grande, Gaea Powell, has been convicted of all nine charges of election fraud from her 2022 and 2024 mayoral election bids.
The charges say that Powell repeatedly presented and registered to vote using an address on James way in Arroyo Grande, when she resided solely at a home on Heritage lane in unincorporated Arroyo Grande, outside of city limits. Her charges are eight felonies and one misdemeanor.
Powell represented herself throughout the trial, waiving her right to counsel. She remains out of custody pending sentencing under special terms, and is scheduled to be sentenced on October 19th. She faces a maximum prison sentence of over eight years.
Powell has said she plans to appeal the decision.
