Recently, the Department of Fish and Game planted more than a thousand trout into Atascadero Lake. Local fisherman are still turning out in the evening hours to try to catch them.
Late Sunday afternoon, a few fishing enthusiasts drove their trucks to the water’s edge to catch the fish. Many others stood on the bank with lines in the lake trying to catch one of the trout. At the south end of the lake, a father encouraged his son who cast as far as he could out into the lake as the sun set over the hills west of Atascadero.
Nearby, a flock of American White Pelicans clustered on a submerged promontory.
