The California Highway Patrol worked alongside the department of homeland security and other agencies to arrest the ringleader of an organized retail crime operation that spanned 21 counties.
CHP says the operation stole an estimated $8 million in beauty products, where the ringleader paid seven individuals to steal from beauty stores, and then sold the stolen cosmetic items on her Amazon storefront.
The charges against the ringleader, brought by the California department of justice, include organized retail theft, conspiracy, receipt of stolen property, and multiple counts of grand theft.
CHP commissioner Sean Duryee said: “Through increased collaborative efforts, retailers and law enforcement have become more efficient and effective in our fight against organized retail crime.”
