District attorney Dan Dow announced a 31-year-old man has been charged with three felony counts for alleged illegal voter registration.
The man is John Ruel S. Ambos, accused of claiming to be a U.S. Citizen on his voter registration form, and illegally registering to vote in August 2016, as well as casting a ballot in California’s gubernatorial recall election in September 2021. Dan Dow said: “A person checks a box, they sign a statement saying that they’re a citizen, and the state accepts it, no questions asked. The state doesn’t verify it.”
Elaina Cano released a statement in response to this announcement, saying “my office stands ready to provide appropriate cooperation and support.”
