The county elections office will recognize today as national poll worker recruitment day.
Founded in 2020 by election assistance commission, the nationwide effort “highlights the essential role poll workers play in administering elections across the country.” Poll workers are “the face of local elections,” according to the clerk-recorder’s office, playing a critical role in ensuring every polling place is welcoming and accessible, verify registrations, issue ballots, explain voting equipment, and more.
Poll workers this election will also help implement a new voting process that allows voters to bring their voted mail ballot back to their assigned place, and deposit their voted ballot directly into the ballot box without using a return envelope. Poll workers all receive training before election day, and the elections office welcomes applicants from all backgrounds, encouraging bilingual community members, college students, and first-time poll workers to apply.
