District attorney Dan Dow announced that 47-year-old John Stephen O’brien, a local x-ray technician, has been sentenced to 120 days in jail and sex offender registration.
O’brien was convicted for misdemeanor sexual battery against a patient. Jurors heard evidence that the victim went in for an x-ray of her back and needed assistance tying her gown. After the x-rays were completed, O’brien offered to untie the gown, and the victim agreed; he then touched and rubbed her back, kissed her back, and sexually pressed himself against the victim, squeezing her chest twice. At his trial, he claimed the victim came on to him, but the jury rejected that notion.
Anyone who has experienced unwanted sexual touching by a medical provider is encouraged to report it to local law enforcement.
