A pilot of a military style aircraft was rescued off the coast of Morro Bay yesterday evening, according to the U.S. Coastguard.
The pilot made a successful landing in the ocean about 5 miles northwest of Morro Bay after losing thrust in his engine, according to radio traffic. The aircraft was conducting exercises off the Monterey and San Luis Obispo county coasts along with three other planes.
The coast guard deployed a helicopter from the county regional airport, but the pilot had already been found and picked up by the navy. The condition of the pilot is not currently known.
