This week, a big celebration at the county supervisors meeting as three progressive candidates were sworn into office.
Incumbents Bruce Gibson and Dawn Ortiz-Legg, and newcomer Jimmy Paulding each took the oath of office. Bruce Gibson complimented the county clerk recorder for a job well done.
Not everyone agrees, however. There are a lot of questions about how the vote-by-mail election was handled in San Luis Obispo county. And how the ballots were counted. And why it took so long to complete. Fair Elections Advocate Darcia Stebbins called for a recount, then stopped it. She says she and her team had all the information they needed, so they halted the recount. Darcia Stebbins is a Certified Public Accountant.
She says there’s a court case making its way toward the supreme court that may change the way these vote by mail elections are run in the US. The Brunson Case asks the court to hold elections officials to their oath of office.
Darcia Stebbins asked many questions about the procedures implemented by the San Luis Obispo elections. She says a lot of those questions were not answered by the county clerk recorder, Elaina Cano.
