Press Release Vegetation Fires – Salinas Riverbed
The Paso Robles fire department responded to two separate vegetation fires in the Salinas riverbed on Tuesday, September 1st late at night.
The first fire was reported at 10 pm, adjacent to the US 101, south of the Paso Robles street exit. The second fire was reported at about 11:45 pm near an encampment south of the 46 east exit. The fire department says “in both incidents, grazed firebreaks played a key role in suppression efforts.” The treated areas provided firefighters with safe access, and the first fire was held at the perimeter of a grazed area before being quickly extinguished. Both fires burned a combined area of less than half an acre, with no reported injuries.
The department says that while weather is cooling down, vegetation remains extremely dry and capable of burning rapidly. The public is encouraged to remain vigilant and use caution with any activity that could ignite dry vegetation.
