In December 2024, following the termination of the downtown paid parking program, the Paso Robles city council chose to table the second reading of an ordinance that would eliminate employee parking permits.
The city council requested the item return to the June 17th meeting. Staff has engaged with several stakeholders in the downtown area in the past six months, including Travel Paso, Wine Country Alliance, Main Street Association, and Chamber of Commerce.
Stakeholders agreed to removing the employee permit program, but the agenda says Main Street has recommended “employee preferred parking” signage for some of the lots in the downtown area. These lots would work on an honor system, encouraging employee parking, but avoids strict enforcement and management costs.
The city council can choose whether to eliminate the employee program in its regular meeting tomorrow night, and whether to introduce the “employee preferred parking” signage.
