The Paso Robles city council provided further direction to staff for the potential sale of Pioneer park in last night’s meeting.
The parcel that was deemed surplus land contains the skate park, a parking lot, and restrooms, located at the corner of Riverside avenue and 19th street. After declaring the land as surplus, the city first entered into negotiations for potential affordable housing on the land. They were unable to reach an agreement from those talks, and directed staff to accept proposals for projects of cultural significance on the parcel. In last night’s meeting, staff asked for further direction from the council. Council agreed to begin accepting proposals for 90 days, with a deadline of January 19th, and confirm that cultural significance are uses that preserve, interpret, or celebrate the history, heritage, arts, or cultural traditions of the Paso Robles community.
The council approved the recommendations made to staff in a 3 – 2 vote. Councilmembers Strong and Beal dissented.
