Atascadero fire & emergency services responded to a multi-family residential structure fire yesterday morning.
The fire was located at a two-story apartment at 5470 Robles avenue at about 10:07 am. The fire department says the exterior balcony of the second story was actively involved in the fire, and that flames had already progressed into the attic. Firefighters determined that the attic contained extensive, well established damage. Lower levels sustained smoke and water damage, and all four units of the apartment were rendered uninhabitable, displacing seven occupants.
The fire was fully knocked down about 28 minutes after dispatch, at 10:35 am. Crews remained on the scene for approximately two hours, completing extensive overhaul operations.
