News Release – AUG 18 – Morro Dunes
In collaboration with the department of fish and wildlife, and the county air pollution control district, Cal Fire San Luis Obispo will be conducting a prescribed burn on Morro dunes ecological reserve.
The work will consist of burn piles of cut vegetation. Burns are planned for today and tomorrow, weather permitting. But due to the amount of vegetation being removed, this may be an ongoing project requiring multiple burn days. Additional burn days are anticipated August 24th through the 27th.
The operation is designed to promote the regeneration of three rare, threatened, and endangered plant species that are either fire-dependent, or benefit from fire. It will also reduce accumulated vegetation that contributes to catastrophic wildfires.
