The U.S. Department of Energy announced it has awarded $271 million to help support Diablo Canyon power plant’s extended operation. In April, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission approved a 20-year license extension on to the power plant’s two reactors.
A lawsuit filed by California and multiple other states against meta, the social media giant that owns Facebook and Instagram, may go to trial this week. The lawsuit alleges meta contributes to the youth mental health crisis by knowingly and deliberately designing features that get children addicted to its platforms. Meta has already lost two cases over harms to children and teens this year.
California lawmakers killed a bill that would have allowed grizzly bears to be reintroduced to California. The assembly appropriations committee spiked the bill, SB1305, and did not discuss it nor take it to public testimony.
