Construction for a segment on the Bob Jones pathway project began yesterday, according to a release from county public works.
The project will construct a multi-use pathway to improve access and safety for bicycle and pedestrian users between the Octagon Barn and Clover-ridge lane. A future segment will extend this portion to Ontario road, providing contiguous access between San Luis Obispo and Avila Beach.
Souza construction has been awarded the $10.5 million construction contract to perform the work, funded through a federal active transportation grant provided by the California transportation commission. It is anticipated the project will take 18 months for construction to finish. Segment 2 will be for a future contract.
