Cal Fire crews responded to a vegetation fire southeast of Shandon yesterday afternoon.
The fire was located near the intersection of Bitterwater and Bitterwater Valley road. The bitter fire managed to grow to over 800 acres within two hours of Cal Fire’s arrival, and then to 1,300 acres by 7:30 that same evening.
Cal Fire says crews were facing “challenging conditions,” to battle the blaze. Cal Fire later reported that the blaze was at 100% containment, and the fire burned a total of 1,651 acres of vegetation.
The cause is under investigation.
