The county sheriff’s office says they received a request from the state office of emergency services on Friday to provide mutual aid to the city of Los Angeles.
The sheriff’s office sent 23 deputies to Los Angeles in response to civil unrest, including members of the mutual aid and public safety team. This is a mobile field team which is the primary respondent to mutual aid requests.
The sheriff’s office says these deputies are being deployed only for public safety and not for immigration enforcement. California law prohibits local law enforcement from assisting ICE.
