Yesterday, a Santa Maria man was arrested after a head-on crash on 101 near Cuesta Peak. An Atascadero man was injured in the crash.
The CHP says around 5:15 yesterday morning, 24-year David Lopez got on southbound 101 near the Cuesta Peak. He drove a Dodge challenger northbound in the southbound lanes. A 37-year-old man from Atascadero saw the oncoming vehicle, but was unable to move out of the way in time. His Toyota 4runner struck part of the wrong way challenger.
The impact caused the 4runner to spin and roll several times. The unidentified driver suffered moderate injuries. Another vehicle was hit by crash debris.
The CHP says Lopez was stopped north of the crash. He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
