The county sheriff’s office released additional information Friday afternoon regarding the officer involved shooting that occurred on Thursday, September 7th.
A high-speed chase involving a suspect in Paso Robles led to the complete closure of the US 101 south, near the Niblick road on-ramp. The sheriff’s office says the suspect remained in his vehicle after the crash, and refused to comply with numerous commands, as well as attempts made by the sheriff’s office crisis negotiation team. After 20 minutes of, he exited his vehicle and immediately pointed a handgun at members of the sheriff’s office and Paso Robles police department. A shooting ensued, and the suspect was declared dead at the scene.
The gun was revealed to be a Crossman SNR357 .177 caliber BB gun. The suspect has also been identified as 44-year-old Randall Kelley of San Miguel. He has been arrested previously in December 2025 and January 2026 for domestic violence restraining order, and in February 2026 for stalking and possession of a loaded firearm.
