A gunman who opened fire in Nipomo Friday was shot and killed by a CHP officer. After receiving reports of an active shooter outside Vons, sheriff’s deputies and CHP officers arrived on the scene.
In a new release issued later, the sheriff’s office said the suspect entered the Von’s gas station and fired shots before exiting. He then fired more shots outside. Deputies and a CHP officer who arrived on the scene fired on the suspect. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
Earlier, the shooter tried to hijack an elderly woman’s car. She refused to give her car up, and he became angry. That led to his firing random shots in the vicinity which resulted in the call for police.
The shooter has not yet been identified.
