On Thursday, the California Public Utilities Commission voted to approve PG&E’s request to increase their rates. PG&E has requested the rate increase to bury around 2,100 miles of power lines in high risk wildfire areas.
The public utilities commission voted to let PG&E bury 1,230 miles of power lines, which will be 1.7 billion dollars cheaper than PG&E’s proposal. The board voted unanimously on this approximately 13% rate increase, which will go into effect starting January 2024.
In 2025, rates will increase once again by around 1.6%, and be reduced slightly in 2026 by 2.8%. The rate changes go into effect January 1, 2024.
