The San Luis Obispo county board of supervisors met on Friday for a special closed session.
The session had to deal with the consideration for discipline, dismissal, or release of a public employee. The county released a statement later that evening saying the board voted to terminate their contract with interim county administrative officer John Nilon.
An investigation into Nilon says he violated the county’s policy against discrimination and harassment with improper conduct towards women. In an email, Nilon says he was not terminated from his position, but rather he resigned earlier that week. The county further says that Nilon’s departure is unrelated to the investigation launched earlier that week within the information technology department regarding misuse of funds.
Rebecca Campbell, assistant county administrative officer, will assume the duties of the CAO until a permanent replacement is chosen.
