A Cal Poly graduate and NASA astronaut will be a part of the crew of Artemis II, the first manned mission to orbit the moon since 1972.
Victor Glover graduated from Cal Poly in 1999, and went on to join the navy, earn his naval aviator wings, got a master’s degree in flight test engineering, and would eventually become a NASA astronaut in 2013.
The Artemis missions will send astronauts on “increasingly difficult missions to explore more of the moon for scientific discovery, economic benefits, and build on our foundation for the first crewed missions to mars,” according to NASA’s website.
The crews on Artemis II will be testing the Orion spacecraft’s life support systems, and lay the groundwork for future Artemis missions.
Launch is expected to countdown today at 6:24 pm.
