The Atascadero city council will discuss proposed updates to its native tree regulations in its zoning code.
In its July 14th meeting, the city council asked staff to amend the native tree regulations, in response to what was seen as unnecessary burdens to remove a dead heritage tree. “Under current native tree regulations, when the removal of a dead native tree is requested, the applicant must pay full application fees and provide a report from a certified arborist verifying the death of the tree,” according to the agenda.
The amendment to the regulations would allow the community development director, or designee, to determine whether the tree died to natural causes without requiring an arborist report, and no application fee shall be required for the removal of a tree that died due to natural causes.
