A 5-vehicle collision occurred at about 11:25 pm Wednesday night on the Cuesta grade.
A wrong way driver allegedly crashed into a dodge charger just south of Hawk Hill road, according to a release from CHP. Three more cars then crashed into the two vehicles, completely blocking the southbound lanes of the highway. The right side passenger of the dodge charger, a 55-year-old man from Grover Beach whose name has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was taken to the Sierra Vista hospital with major injuries.
The wrong-way driver was arrested under suspicion that he was driving under the influence of alcohol and possibly drugs. He was identified as David Worthington Ross, and was transported to the same hospital with serious injuries.
