The Timber fire in Monterey county near Big Sur continues to burn, reaching over 20,000 acres.
Another wildfire has also erupted yesterday morning, about 30 miles south of the Timber fire. The Plaskett fire is closer to the San Luis Obispo county line, and is at 1,700 acres so far. Due to the two fires, a 40-mile stretch of highway 1 is fully closed in Big Sur, north of Cambria and all the way to Captain Cooper elementary school in Monterey county.
Smoke from the two wildfires could impact north San Luis Obispo county as well. The air pollution control district has issued an air quality advisory, warning that smoke impacts could significantly increase in the Paso Robles and Atascadero regions.
