The Plaskett fire has grown to over 26,000 acres, and is now larger than the timber fire further north into Monterey county.
The fire’s containment still sits at 1% currently. Cal Fire cited “aggressive growth” along the eastern perimeter, pushing deeper into Fort Hunter Liggett, and into areas that have not burned in more than 50 years. “Steep terrain and heavy fuels remain the primary drivers of fire behavior,” according to Cal Fire.
Air quality for the Paso Robles, San Miguel, Shandon, and Templeton areas is forecast to be unhealthy for sensitive groups today. You can monitor the air quality status at slocleanair.org.
The SLO county air pollution control district says if you can smell smoke or see ash falling, head inside and stay indoors, and avoid strenuous activity outside.
