Former San Luis Obispo county mayoral candidate, Gaea Powell has had her sentencing delayed for a few weeks.
Powell was convicted on September 21st of seven felonies and one misdemeanor of election fraud, related to her 2022 and 2024 campaigns for mayor of Arroyo Grande. Her maximum allowed sentence is seven years and 10 months in state prison, but the DA’s office filed a report advocating for a one-year jail sentence and probation.
On Monday, when she was supposed to be sentenced, Powell asked for legal representation for her sentencing. Powell repeatedly asked to represent herself when her case initially started, and only recently began to ask for legal counsel. The judge has granted her request, and her sentencing is rescheduled for November 4th.
