High school athletic competition finally returns to the north county. Friday afternoon, the Atascadero Greyhounds hosted the Templeton Eagles in a dual cross country meet. Greyhound athletic director Sam DeRose tells KPRL it’s been almost a year since high school athletes competed in any sport.
In the girls race Friday, Anna Archibald and Faith Rocha finished first and second respectively. Tempelton’s Maddie Bobbit was third.
In the boys race, Templeton freshman Josh Bell literally ran away from the field. He won the 2.4 mile race by over a minute. He averaged just over 5 minutes per mile about 5:06. The Greyhounds Tyler Rigby was second. Kyle Shatwell was third.
The Atascadero athletic department imposed strict regulations during the meet. Only family members and the media could attend. Everyone wore masks, even the athletes after their run.
